Structures constructed
- Starting and destination shaft in open construction with 120,000 m³ excavation
- Emergency exit from the tunnels in caisson construction before the shield drive
- Two one-track tunnels (L = 2 x 1,080 m) with 44,000 m³ tunnel excavation
- Four-track tunnel rectangular cross-section in open construction (L = 219 m)
|
Special features
- Shield tunnelling with a hydroshield (Øe = 6.50 m) for the line area in the tunnel
- Stone catcher ahead of the feed pump and a sluice at the foot of the pressure wall simplify removal of obstacles
- First-time use of a jaw-crusher in shield operation for automated removal of obstacles
- Covering of the area shield line emergency exit using lean concrete for simplification of the shield travel
- Minimal coverage between upper ground edge or building foundation and tunnel roof
- Underground passage close to buildings as high as twelve storeys
|
Utilization
- Underground railway tunnel of the City of Berlin
|
Construction
- Single-shell expansion (Øi = 5.70 m) with reinforced concrete cassette tubbings
- Tubbing ring width of 1.10 m, consisting of seven segment stones and one capping stone
- Dismantable steel tubbings in the area of the emergency exit in place of the reinforced concrete cassette tubbings
- Excavation pits in subterranean curtain construction with underwater concrete invert
|
Geology
- High groundwater level up to 2.50 m under land surface and 4.50 to 7.00 m above tunnel roof
- Primarily till
- Layers of clay, fine and medium grade sands, gravel and rock inclusions
