Structures constructed
  • Starting and destination shaft in open construction with 120,000 m³ excavation
  • Two one-track tunnels (L = 2 x 1,080 m) with 44,000 m³ tunnel excavation
Special features
  • Assembly of shield (L = 7.0 m) and rear carriage (L = 43.0 m) with a weight of 320 t with the help of an 800 t truck- mounted crane
  • Shield tunnelling with a hydroshield (Øe = 6.52 m) for the line area in the tunnel
  • Tunnelling liquid-supported road header, mechanical soil removal and hydraulic soil conveyor
  • Stone catcher ahead of the feed pump and a sluice at the foot of the pressure wall simplify removal of obstacles
Utilization
  • Metropolitan railway tunnel of the City of Duisburg
Construction
  • Single-shell expansion (Øi/Øe = 5.70/6.30 m) with waterproof reinforced concrete block tubbings
  • Tubbing ring width of 1.20 m, consisting of seven segment stones and one capping stone
  • Concrete quality B 45 and concrete tubbing thickness d = 30 cm
  • Neoprene tape in the groove running around the tubbing to seal the seam against water pressing in
  • Delivery of the tubbings as concrete prefabricated parts with a required dimension precision of +/-0,5 mm
  • Embedding of the tubbings in the subsoil by force-fit pressing of the shield track using mortar
  • Excavation pits with subterraneous curtains and overlapping caisson piles
  • Watertightness of the excavation pits by binding the subterraneous curtains and caisson piles in the in-situ carbon
Geology
  • Two groundwater storeys with seasonal fluctuations between 4.0 and 8.5 m
  • Fills, clay, gravel, sand, fine sand, potter’s clay
  • Chalk silt without sand inclusions respectively with sand strips and sand layers
  • Rock of the carbon
